There is something mysteriously difficult in trying to talk about patterns of community behavior and social conventions. Community is oddly indescribable, or if you try, it might take 250 words to really nail what it is like to participate in a simple social exchange.
Not sure why this is, but when it comes to better understanding community participation, you just need to dive in. And if you take a learning attitude, you will be richer for it.
It should be noted here that learning-by-doing is also the economic theory of increased productivity resulting from repetitive worker activity. Perhaps this is relevant.
Obtaining a LiteracyOfHumanNature can be quite handy when designing social systems. By interacting in collaborative environments online, you are likely to learn about social conventions and behavior that are highly relevant.
