TPJ: You know, it's really hard to find any information about the terms of your service. How much space do you offer for a wiki? Is it possible to forbid anyone to modify the content of a wiki? Are there any page number limits?

I'm sorry, if this is wrong place to ask such a questions - but I'd really like to know the answers. If I should ask these questions somewhere else, please let me know.

Alex: There's nothing but the first paragraph of the HomePage, and maybe the Oddwiki and MotherWiki link. Everything else is common sense. Since you don't pay, you have no rights.

yo. wiki's are about collaboration. most wiki software code itself is free. see usemod/download. I think, with that one, you can use it for your own purpose, modify it, but you thereby promise never use it to make money. see also http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki. for that one, I think they have for-profit ones, but I don't know the detailz, you'd hafta read up on it. as for the server space here, alex answered that cuz it's his joint. if you are a good person who wantz to put work in to truly develop a community online, you will prob fit in. Alex: UseModWiki is free software using the GNU General Public License (GPL). Oddmuse, the wiki engine used on this site, is derivative of UseMod 0.92! The GPL allows the for-profit use of software. No problem what so ever! If you really want to know, you should check out the Wikimatrix. That's where you can compare wikis by features, including licenses and hosting.

Patrick: Software hosting has recurring costs of hardware, line-use, electricity and maintenance.

TPJ: would you be willing to pay for these? How do we determine a user's 'footprint'?

Alex: Would you accept these funds if they were enough to be 'worth the trouble'?

Alex: I don't think that there is enough money in hosting free software. If you have a good business plan, however, I'd be interested in hearing it. :)
